HC Deb 30 July 1942 vol 382 c679
41. Commander King-Hall

asked the Home Secretary whether any measures can be taken to increase the amount of light allowed to pedal bicycles during the coming winter months?

Mr. H. Morrison

This matter has been under examination. A mask which gives more satisfactory results has been designed, but there are some questions of labour and material to be settled before production can begin.

Commander King-Hall

May we have an assurance that a decision will be reached in ample time? If the right hon. Gentleman is in any doubt as to the urgent nature of this, will he accompany me on a tandem on a tour round London and see for himself the troubles and difficulties that bicyclists are in?

Mr. Morrison

I am not sure that I ought to run the risk of being caught by the police for dangerous driving, but the decision is all right. The mask has actually met with the approval of the National Union of Cyclists and the Cyclists' Touring Club. The problem is one of production. I will do anything I can.
