§ Since 1923, in the case of insurance companies belonging to the Accident Offices Association (which includes most of the accident insurance companies) the proportion of income allocated to payments of compensation has been subject to the operation of an agreement concluded with the Home Office, under which where that proportion falls below a specified percentage rebates are payable. Details of the arrangement and the rebate payable are set out in the white paper headed "Employers' Liability (Limitation of Charges)" which is presented to Parliament each year. The paper in respect of the year 1940 is Cmd. 6297.

§ The Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department (Mr. Peake)I will circulate in the OFFICIAL REPORT the figures so far as available for insurance companies. The figures are derived from returns furnished to the Board of Trade under the Assurance Companies Act, 1909. Mutual indemnity associations are not required to make returns under the Act, and no such particulars are available.
