HC Deb 21 July 1942 vol 381 cc1407-8
49. Rear-Admiral Beamish

asked the Paymaster-General whether he is aware of the opposition expressed by the rural district councils to the policy of regionalisation of local government administration; and what are the Government's present and post-war intentions in this respect?

The Paymaster-General (Sir William Jowitt)

I have received copies of some such resolutions in the event of the Government wishing to put forward any proposals for altering local government administration, I have no doubt that local authorities will be given full opportunity, through their representative associations, of expressing their views. I am not aware, at present, of any Government plan for the reconstitution of local government administration on a- regional basis.
