HC Deb 21 July 1942 vol 381 c1397
32. Sir P. Hurd

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether, seeing the difficulties created for the large number of small householders by the new rationing scheme, he will consider the possibility of allowing a ration of balancer meal for at least four hens per household?

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture (Mr. T. Williams)

I regret that my right hon. Friend is unable to adopt my hon. Friend's suggestion. There would not be sufficient balancer meal available for such a scheme. I would point out, however, that no household need reduce its poultry to less than four if at least four persons, not necessarily in the same household, agree to contribute kitchen and garden waste, and arrange to share the eggs among them.
