HC Deb 15 July 1942 vol 381 cc1223-4
43. Major Lyons

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power under what circumstances, for what distances and purposes may petrol now be used in motor-cars hired on the drive-yourself system; and why, with the determination of the basic petrol ration, is this type of usage not conditioned further?

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Fuel and Power (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

I would refer to the answer I gave to my hon. and gallant Friend on 1st July.

Major Lyons

Is anything to be done to implement the undertaking given in March that this kind of protective use of petrol would cease when the petrol ration for the ordinary consumer came to an end on 30th June?

Mr. Lloyd

Yes, Sir, the order will be issued very shortly.
