HC Deb 02 July 1942 vol 381 c482
13. Mr. Liddall

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he will make it clear that the arrangements by which school children are to help in agriculture do not involve any interference with the normal school holidays?

The President of the Board of Education (Mr. Butler)

In the Circular, a copy of which I am sending to my hon. Friend, I have asked local education authorities and governing bodies, where satisfied of the need by the war agricultural executive committees, to fix up to eight weeks of the total normal school holidays for the year at such times, and where necessary at short notice, as will best suit the seasonal agricultural operations of each locality.
