HC Deb 01 July 1942 vol 381 c206
45. Miss Cazalet

asked the Minister of Production whether he is yet in a position to make a statement with regard to appointing a woman on his Industrial Production Panel?

The Minister of Supply (Sir Andrew Duncan)

I have been asked to reply. My right hon. Friend has given careful consideration to this matter. The Chairman of the Panel has power to co-opt individuals for the purpose of carrying out particular inquiries, and my right hon. Friend has instructed him in the exercise of this power to co-opt Mrs. Martin, who is a suitably qualified woman, in all cases in which the matters under investigation substantially affect the interests of women in employment.

Miss Cazalet

Will my right hon. Friend convey my thanks to the Minister for that very satisfactory reply?

Dr. Edith Summerskill

Could the right hon. Gentleman say why it is always necessary for women in this House to make a protest before women are included upon these very important advisory committees?
