HC Deb 27 January 1942 vol 377 cc548-9
40. Mr. Stokes

asked the Secretary of State for War how soon it is intended to appoint Lieutenant-General Sir Alan Cunningham, recently relieved of his command in Libya, to a new post; and whether he will state the nature of that post?

Captain Margesson

Lieutenant-General Sir Alan Cunningham is at present on sick leave, and the question of his re-employment will not arise until he is once again passed fit for duty.

Mr. Stokes

Has the Minister himself seen Sir Alan Cunningham since he came home, and is he satisfied that he has been placed in the correct medical category?

Captain Margesson

That is not really for me to decide.

Mr. Stokes

Has the Minister seen Sir Alan Cunningham since he came home?

Captain Margesson

No, Sir.

Sir A. Knox

Is it not a fact that Lieutenant-General Sir Alan Cunningham did very well in Abyssinia?

Captain Margesson

Yes, Sir.
