§ Captain MargessonHome Guards at Leeds have been issued with either capes or greatcoats. All capes will ultimately be replaced by greatcoats, but it would not be justifiable in view of the supply position to withdraw the capes until an alternative use has been found for them. I am asking the Northern Command to investigate the position in this particular case.
§ Major MilnerIs the Minister aware that the position is very unsatisfactory, and that serious consequences may ensue if proper provision is not made in the matter?
§ Captain MargessonI know that there are disadvantages in regard to capes, but they were brought in as a substitute at a time when there were difficulties of supply. I think the hon. and gallant Member will agree that in these difficult days of supply one must be very careful not to have waste.
§ Major MilnerIs not the Minister aware that these greatcoats are in stock and that they could be supplied to-morrow if he gave the order?
