HC Deb 27 January 1942 vol 377 c545
25. Mr. Sexton

asked the Secretary of State for War who authorised the use of an Army lorry, on or about 5th December, 1941, to journey from Felton in Northumberland to Wolsingham in County Durham, a distance of 60 miles, in order to collect and convey to Felton a jazz band drum; and what action he proposes to take to prevent such waste of Army petrol?

Captain Margesson

The driver of the vehicle was going to Newcastle on normal Army duty and was told to go on and collect the drum from Wolsingham, where it was thought to have been unloaded by mistake. Appropriate disciplinary action is being taken.
