HC Deb 25 February 1942 vol 378 cc191-2
32. Captain Gammans

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies why the names of European civilians in Malaya, killed, wounded and missing, have not been published?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

Efforts were made to obtain information about casualties to European civilians in Malaya, but as the situation developed and communications were interrupted this became increasingly difficult. A list of civilian and local Forces casualties compiled from information received from the Governor has been prepared with a view to publication and will be issued shortly. Further lists will be published as and when information is received.

Captain Gammans

May I ask the reason why they could not be published now?

Mr. Macmillan

They are being published as soon as they are complete.
