HC Deb 24 February 1942 vol 378 cc23-4
53. Sir Reginald Blair

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that, owing to black-out, the office hours of the inspector of taxes, Marylebone district, during the current month, are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and whether, to enable business people to keep appointments connected with Income Tax, longer hours will be arranged?

Captain Crookshank

My hon. Friend is not correct if he assumes that duty at the office in question is restricted to the hours that he mentions. My information is that staff attend from 9 a.m. until 6.30 p.m. It is convenient that some part of these hours should be free of calls, if possible, but appointments are arranged to meet the convenience of the public, and I shall be glad to have particulars of any instance to the contrary.
