HC Deb 24 February 1942 vol 378 cc8-9
25. Mr. Hannah

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware of the dissatisfaction caused in Wolverhampton by the regulation that no civilian may be served with refreshments in the Forces canteen and social club, preventing soldiers from bringing wives or other friends; and will he modify this ruling?

Mr. Sandys

In view of the limited accommodation, supplies, equipment and staff, it would not be possible to admit any further classes of persons to Service canteens and institutes, without seriously curtailing the amenities at present enjoyed.
