HC Deb 24 February 1942 vol 378 c10
30. Major Lloyd

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the fullest use is being made of the experience and ability of mobile cooks who have been called up into the Voluntary Aid Detachment in Scotland; and what steps are being taken to ensure that they are occupying positions commensurate with their technical qualifications.

Mr. Sandys

I am not aware of any evidence to show that mobile Voluntary Aid Detachment cooks in Scotland are not in general being employed on duties appropriate to their experience and qualifications.

Major Lloyd

Is my hon. Friend aware that qualified cooks are unable to get promotion because no one will part with them?

Mr. Sandys

The status of these cooks is being considered in connection with the general reorganisation of the Voluntary Aid Detachment.

Major Lloyd

The matter has been under consideration for eight months and is still being considered, like so many other matters.
