§ 45. Mr. Shinwellasked the Prime Minister whether it is intended to inquire into the possibility of providing full employment after the war; and whether this matter will be considered in relation to the unemployment insurance proposals contained in the Beveridge Report?
§ The Paymaster-General (Sir William Jowitt)I have been asked to reply. Yes, Sir. Inquiries are actively proceeding into the many aspects of this most difficult problem, and, as I said in the House on 1st December, we should allow nothing to stand in the way of our success in the fight against unemployment. In this connection the relevant sections of Sir William Beveridge's Report will certainly be taken fully into account.
§ Mr. ShinwellWho is inquiring into this important matter? Is it a committee? If so, who are they? If it is a Minister, who is he?
§ Sir W. JowittAs I endeavoured to show in my speech on the 1st instant, there is a series of committees inquiring into the problem.
§ Mr. ShinwellAre they departmental committees? Are outside experts being consulted?
§ Sir W. JowittYes, they are being consulted.
