asked the President of the Board of Education whether, in view of the information now available as a result of the registration of boys and girls of 16 to 18 years of age, he will publish a White Paper giving a survey of the returns, with special reference to the excessive hours of work which are now in force in a large number of cases?

Mr. Butler

I hope to be able to furnish a statement as early as possible in the New Year covering both the registrations which took place during January to April last and the further registration held in September, reports on which local education authorities have been asked to submit to my Department this month. Information of excessive working hours of young people is one of the points to which authorities are asked to pay special attention.

Is the right hon. Gentleman in communication with the Minister of Labour about the revelations that have already been made as to excessive hours of labour which are at present being worked.

Has the right hon. Gentleman come to a decision about the registration of youths between 14 and 16 years of age?
