HC Deb 03 December 1942 vol 385 c1281
24. Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Pensions whether he is aware that discontent is caused by the fact that no expenses are paid to unsuccessful applicants for pensions in lieu of lost pay in going to Great Smith Street for a medical examination; and whether these arrangements can be reviewed?

Sir W. Womersley

I presume the hon. Member has in mind cases in which, a claim to pension having been rejected, the man appeals against the Ministry's decision and is called before a medical board. Actual travelling expenses are paid in all such cases, but I do not think it unreasonable to limit compensation for loss of time to those in which the appeal is successful.
