§ 12. Mr. Granvilleasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when he expects to be in a position to make a statement with regard to the release of Free French prisoners in North Africa?
§ Mr. EdenAs I pointed out to the House on 25th November, North Africa is still a zone of military operations under the command of the United States Commander-in-Chief. I have no complete information on the Question which my hon. Friend asks, but I understand that many of the French prisoners have been released.
§ Mr. GranvilleIn view of the fact that many of these gallant men stood by us when we had few friends, does not the right hon. Gentleman think we ought to take special steps to try to ensure their immediate release?
§ Mr. EdenI entirely share the hon. Member's sympathies on the point. I noticed President Roosevelt's statement about it, and I feel sure that everything will be done rapidly, so that these men may be released.
