HC Deb 02 December 1942 vol 385 cc1162-3
69. Mr. Thorne

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he can give any information in connection with the new coal seam discovered near Nottingham; what kind of coal, soft or hard; and whether there are men available to work the colliery, including the wind-engine men?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Fuel and Power (Mr. Tom Smith)

The seam is an outcrop of one of the working seams in the Nottinghamshire coalfield. The area in question is quite small, and will be worked by a drift from the surface. It is not anticipated that this small mine will employ many men, and they will be those unsuitable for ordinary colliery operations.
