HC Deb 02 December 1942 vol 385 c1131
7. Mr. Mander

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will consider the advisability of entering into consultation with the United States Government with a view to a mutual agreement to prevent the authorisation of the setting-up of bogus degree granting universities in the territory of the other?

Mr. Eden

I hardly think that this is a matter for Government action.

Mr. Mander

Has the right hon. Gentleman's attention been called to the case of Sulgrave University. Is it not a pity that this famous name should be used for purely money-making purposes?

Mr. Eden

I have heard something about it. I do not know the details, but I will try to find time to look it up

Mr. Edmund Harvey

Will the right hon. Gentleman consult the President of the Board of Education?

Miss Rathbone

Will the right hon. Gentleman consult university M.P.'s generally on the subject?
