HC Deb 02 December 1942 vol 385 cc1148-9
39. Mr. Tinker

asked the Minister of Information whether he will take steps to make it known what Germany said at the start of the battle in Egypt and the statements they are making now, so that it will be understood how they have tried to underrate the defeat they have sustained?

Mr. Bracken

The Press and the B.B.C. have given such full attention to the contortions of the German propaganda machine in the past that there is little left for me to add. One gem is perhaps worth requoting. This is Dr. Geobbels' pronouncement that the bold operations of quietly disengaging himself from the enemy which Rommel initiated in the first weeks of November may now be regarded as closed.
