Mr. Glenvil Hallasked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether consideration can be given to the possibility of granting seamen, stationed at a place of which he has been informed, travelling time in addition to their regulation number of days leave, on the ground that those with their houses in the South of England spend the best part of four days going and returning?
§ The First Lord of the Admiralty (Mr. A. V. Alexander)I regret that this is not possible since the period of leave given to ratings from the place referred to is already sufficiently greater than that given to shore establishments generally to allow for the extra time spent in travelling.
§ Mr. HallIf the men could be let off a few hours earlier it would make a great difference in the time at which they reached home.
§ Mr. AlexanderI will have the point looked at to see if we can do it without undue extension of leave, but already they are treated rather generously because of the difficulty of that particular station.
