HC Deb 30 September 1941 vol 374 c464
73. Mr. Woodburn

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that whole districts in Scotland are practically deprived of adequate supplies of high-tension batteries for wireless sets, and that this is causing many people outside towns to be deprived of wireless facilities; and whether he can arrange for a better distribution by rationing or other means?

Sir A. Duncan

I am aware of the difficulties to which the hon. Member refers, and have been in consultation with the manufacturers with a view to improving the supply and distribution of wireless batteries throughout the country. I am assured that steps are being taken to effect an early improvement in Scottish supplies.

Mr. Woodburn

Will my right hon. Friend consult the Minister of Information on this question? Many people are becoming so discouraged because they are unable to obtain batteries that they are giving up using their wireless sets.

Sir A. Duncan

We are in consultation with the Ministry.
