HC Deb 30 September 1941 vol 374 c443
19. Mr. Hannah

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he realises the hardship caused by the drastic cutting down of military allowances for the relatives of a soldier reported missing, thus adding financial difficulties to anxiety; and can he hold out any hope of this situation being eased?

Captain Margesson

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for North Kensington (Captain Duncan) on 25th March, of which I am sending him a copy.

Mr. Hannah

Does my right hon. and gallant Friend realise the enormous hardship caused to a mother or wife who, after hearing that her husband or son is killed, has her allowance cut down as well?

Captain Margesson

I think that the arrangements I announced to the House on that date are working satisfactorily.

Mr. Kirk wood

Would the right hon. and gallant Gentleman not reconsider the matter sympathetically?
