HC Deb 23 October 1941 vol 374 cc1892-3
31. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Health how far the principle of public representation proportionate to the amount of public financial assistance already operates respecting voluntary hospitals; and whether any recommendation in regard to this principle has ever been communicated to local authorities?

Mr. E. Brown

I have not sufficient information to show how far local authorities are represented on the governing bodies of voluntary hospitals to which they make grants. No recommendation has been made in the sense of the second part of the Question.

Mr. Sorensen

Does the Minister agree that it is highly desirable that a recommendation along these lines should be made? Does he agree with the principle underlying the Question?

Mr. Brown

I answered a Question of that kind last week on the lines that questions such as representation and the amount of grant are proper matters for discussion at a later stage during the preparation of a hospital scheme.
