HC Deb 08 October 1941 vol 374 c992
62. Mr. Liddall

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food why retail meat dealers, who have hitherto been licensed to sell canned meats, are to be prohibited from selling such meats in the future unless they arc already licensed to sell either butter, sugar or bacon?

Major Lloyd George

It is not proposed to prohibit retail butchers who have hitherto been licensed to sell canned meats from selling such meats in future. Retail butchers are at present the sole distributors of canned corned beef, mutton and pork and it is not proposed to alter this arrangement.

Mr. Burke

Does that mean that butchers are to have these licences?

Major Lloyd George

I think my answer covers that point. What they do now they will still continue to do.
