HC Deb 08 October 1941 vol 374 cc961-2
11. Mr. Shinwell

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he has considered a resolution from the West Lancashire and West Cheshire Labour Women's Advisory Council on the subject of allowances for the wives of Service men; why a reply was sent stating that the Liberal Party at its Annual Assembly a fortnight ago passed a resolution in favour of allowances for children, and that therefore the resolution from the Women's Labour parties is met by the policy of the Liberal Party; and whether this reply represents the policy of the Government?

Sir A. Sinclair

The resolution will be carefully considered. The reply to it was sent owing to a misunderstanding, for which I have expressed regret.

Mr. Shinwell

Do I understand, therefore, that my right hon. Friend will cause a letter to be sent to this organisation stating the official position of the Department in this matter?

Sir A. Sinclair

Yes, Sir.
