§ 21. Mr. Lindsayasked the President of the Board of Education how many physical training instructors have been released from the Armed Services to carry on work among youth organisations; and whether it is now proposed to terminate this procedure?
§ Mr. ButlerAccording to the information immediately available, 237 serving men nave been released from me Armed Forces and 10 cases are under consideration. In addition, about 100 men have had their military service deferred and 35 applications are being examined. As regards the second part of the Question I would refer my hon. Friend to D.P.R. Memorandum No. 4, a copy of which I am sending him.
§ Mr. LindsayDoes this memorandum say what the procedure is to be, and will the right hon. Gentleman realise that it is no good saving labour on this and then having to use increased labour on building improved schools?
§ Mr. ButlerPerhaps the hon. Member had better refer to the memorandum, which is a quite short one.
§ 23. Mr. Lindsayasked the President of the Board of Education whether he can make a statement on the provision of proper rations for youth clubs?
§ Mr. ButlerYes, Sir. I am glad to state that substantial improvements are to be made in the provision of rations to youth clubs. I have issued an administrative memorandum, No. 328 of 4th November. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy, and he will see that the concessions made involve increases in respect of sugar, preserves, fats, milk, cheese and canned foods.
§ Mr. LindsayIs the Minister aware that this communication has been received with much gratefulness?
