HC Deb 27 November 1941 vol 376 cc896-7
76. Mr. Stokes

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport how many accidents have occurred in Dawes Lane, Scunthorpe, since 1st January, 1940; how many were fatal; and why steps have not been taken to widen the road and so secure the safety of the thousands of workers who use it?

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of War Transport (Colonel Llewellin)

I am making inquiries and will communicate with my hon. Friend as soon as possible.

Mr. Stokes

Is my right hon. and gallant Friend aware that this road is really kept in its narrow state because it is private property, and that the workers are in great danger daily; and cannot something be done?

Colonel Llewellin

I am not aware of that. The Question only came to my notice last night, and I am afraid that I have no personal knowledge of Dawes Lane, Scunthorpe.

Mr. Stokes

My right hon. and gallant Friend will have a great deal of knowledge the next time I put down the Question.
