HC Deb 26 November 1941 vol 376 cc737-8
37. Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Undersecretary of State for the Colonies what steps have been taken in Kenya to remove the difficulties in the way of securing decent housing for the African people in Nairobi; and whether he will insist on urgent action to eradicate the present intolerable conditions?

Mr. George Hall

The Governor is fully alive to the importance and urgency of improving native housing conditions in Nairobi. My hon. Friend will be pleased to hear that approval has recently been given for expenditure of £20,000 from Kenya Government Funds on the construction of houses for African Government employees in Nairobi, and for a loan of £30,000 to the Nairobi Municipal Council for a housing scheme.
