§ 14. Sir P. Hannonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the educational work of the British Council Institute, at Alexandria, is in process during the winter session; how many students are in attendance; and whether organised effort is being made in Egypt to direct attention to the beneficent purpose of the Institute?
§ Mr. EdenThe winter season of the Institute opened at the beginning of October. On the basis of the figures for the season which ended on 1st June, it is estimated that between 450 and 500 students will attend the courses. In view of the limited staff available, this would represent the maximum number of students for whom room could be found.
§ Sir P. HannonDoes my right hon. Friend contemplate an extension of the activities of this Council in Egypt?
§ Mr. EdenI am afraid I must have notice of that Question for all these matters involve the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
