33. Major Peto

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings whether he can state the arrangements made in Birmingham for the training of Government staff in the use of fire-fighting apparatus?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Buildings (Mr. Hicks)

A school for the training of Government staff in the use of fire-fighting apparatus was opened at Macdonald Street, Birmingham, on 26th July last and since that date a total of 1,300 Civil Service personnel has been trained. The instruction includes practical training in the use of all fire-fighting equipment from first-aid appliances to trailer pumps. The facilities provided at Birmingham are available to all Government staffs in the Midland Civil Defence Region.
