HC Deb 13 May 1941 vol 371 c1072
38. Mr. Moelwyn Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the present position regarding the construction of the new London tubes; and when some part of them will come into use?

The Joint Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Home Security (Miss Wilkinson)

Work is in progress on a number of sites, but it has not yet reached a point which would enable my right hon. Friend to make an accurate estimate of the date when they will be brought into use. It is hoped that a substantial proportion of the sites will be completed by the beginning of next winter.
