HC Deb 18 March 1941 vol 370 c28
42. Captain Cunningham-Reid

asked the Prime Minister whether he will issue instructions that during this period of national emergency Ministers, senior officers, and civil servants do not waste valuable time in attending public banquets?

Mr. Attlee

My right hon. Friend is not convinced that such an instruction is necessary.

Captain Cunningham-Reid

Is it not a fact that men and women engaged on our war effort have often to spend as much as two hours in one day at such banquets, to say nothing of the time spent in composing their speeches?

Sir W. Smithers

Will the right hon. Gentleman also make sure that none of these people referred to in the Question go to Honolulu?
