HC Deb 12 June 1941 vol 372 cc330-1
38. Commander Locker - Lampson

asked the Home Secretary whether he has considered the correspondence between Mr. Lamb, of Springton, Cambridgeshire, and the Cambridgeshire County Council, with reference to a proposed street collection during War Weapons Week, a copy of which has been sent him by the hon. Member for Handsworth; and whether he will issue special instructions to local authorities as to the desirability of allowing street collections during War Weapons Weeks?

Mr. H. Morrison

I am obliged to my hon. and gallant Friend for letting me see the correspondence. The responsibility for deciding whether street collections may be held has been placed by Parliament on the police authorities, and I have no authority to give them instructions as to the exercise of their discretion. I have no doubt that police authorities generally appreciate the importance of War Weapons Weeks.
