HC Deb 12 June 1941 vol 372 c329
28. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he has any further statement to make respecting political developments in India?

Mr. Amery

I am not in a position to add anything to the statement which I made in the House on 22nd April.

Mr. Sorensen

Does the right hon. Gentleman appreciate that there is growing concern regarding the political deadlock in India, particularly as evinced at the recent Labour party conference? When is he likely to be able to make another statement on this important matter?

Mr. Amery

I am aware of the situation, but I cannot say when I shall be in a position to make a statement.

Mr. Gordon Macdonald

Is the light hon. Gentleman aware that the political situation in India is retarding the national war effort?

Mr. Amery

I am not prepared to say that that is so.
