HC Deb 12 June 1941 vol 372 c329
27. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for India whether he has any information respecting the arrest and imprisonment of Ganpat Sahai, chairman of Sultanpur Municipality; why he was acquitted and yet, under Defence Regulations, arrested five days later; and whether he is now released?

The Secretary of State for India (Mr. Amery)

Babu Ganpat Sahai was detained under Defence of India Rule 129(1) (a) on 17th January, 1941, on suspicion that he was about to act in a manner prejudicial to the public safety or to the efficient prosecution of the war. I have no later information, but will make inquiry of the Government of India.

Mr. Sorensen

Can I take it that that information, when available, will be communicated to those hon. Members who are interested?

Mr. Amery

Yes, Sir.
