HC Deb 10 June 1941 vol 372 c22
38. Sir T. Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what arrangements are in force to supervise the moral and physical welfare of girls in the Land Army when placed on isolated farms in Scotland?

Mr. Johnston

Welfare supervision of members of the Women's Land Army in Scotland, whether on isolated farms or elsewhere, has been entrusted to Women's Land Army sub-committees. These committees allot districts to local women representatives who take an active interest in the well-being of the volunteers.

Sir T. Moore

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this may be the system in theory, but it is not actually so in practice, and is he aware that young girls are dumped on these farms and then apparently forgotten?

Mr. Johnston

That is not my information, but if the hon. and gallant Gentleman will give me any instances to the contrary, I shall be very glad indeed to look into the matter.
