HC Deb 10 June 1941 vol 372 cc31-2
52. Sir Irving Albery

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he now intends to introduce legislation limiting Contracts involving payments free of tax?

Sir K. Wood

I have had this matter under consideration following many representations which I have received regarding the inequity resulting from carrying out, at the increased rates of tax now prevailing, arrangements entered into before the war to make payments free of tax, and I have decided to make provision in the Finance Bill to deal with the matter. I hope to put down to-morrow a Resolution and Clauses setting out my proposals.

Sir I. Albery

Does my right hon. Friend remember that his attention was drawn to this matter by Question some time ago? I am glad to note that he has now changed his views.

Sir K. Wood

I am very much indebted to my hon. Friend for what he has said, but I have not changed my views.

Sir H. Williams

Will the proposal involve a Financial Resolution or new Clauses?

Sir K. Wood

I said that I hoped to put down to-morrow a Resolution and Clauses.
