HC Deb 03 July 1941 vol 372 c1466
4. Mr. Wootton-Davies

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will consider introducing legislation prescribing that, for the duration of the war, Sunday labour shall, if the worker enjoys one clear alternative rest day in the then cur rent week, not be remunerated at other than the normal weekly rate of pay in the industry?

Mr. Bevin

No, Sir, such legislation could not be confined to the point which my hon. Friend mentions, and would involve the supersession of the industrial machinery dealing with such matters on which it is the Government's policy to rely.
