HC Deb 23 January 1941 vol 368 c271
2. Mr. Mander

asked the Minister of Labour what steps he is taking to encourage the setting up in all industrial establishments of standing joint arrangements for the regular discussion between managements and properly elected representatives of the workpeople of matters in which they are mutually interested, and how far this is already in operation?

The Minister of Labour (Mr. Ernest Bevin)

I am at present in consultation with the organisations in the engineering and shipbuilding and ship-repairing industries on all questions affecting the labour supply in those industries among which is that relating to the joint arrangements to which my hon. Friend refers. I gave a clear indication of the Government's policy in the course of last Tuesday's Debate.

Mr. Mander

Do I understand that it is my right hon. Friend's policy to introduce this machinery throughout the country in all industries in due course?

Mr. Bevin

We have to do it in consultation with the industries.

15. Mr. Thorne

asked the Minister of Labour whether he intends to make any alteration in the method of settling wage and other questions between the trade unions and the employers' organisations?

Mr. Bevin

I would refer my hon. Friend to the statement which I made on this subject in last Tuesday's Debate.
