HC Deb 27 February 1941 vol 369 c607
5. Mr. Robert Gibson

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in fixing the age for persons in a reserved occupation, he will have regard to the number of ex-Servicemen available for the particular occupation and qualified to do the work under consideration though above the age for military service?

Mr. Assheton

In fixing the age of reservation for an occupation, regard is had for all relevant factors, including the number of persons suitable and available for necessary work.

Mr. Gibson

Is the Minister aware that there is a widespread feeling among ex-Service men that, although they have qualifications, their availability is not being recognised, and that men of military age are being reserved unduly?

Mr. Assheton

Perhaps when the new Schedule of Reserved Occupations is issued, the hon. and learned Member will be more than satisfied.
