HC Deb 27 February 1941 vol 369 cc635-6
68. Sir T. Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what response has been made in Scotland to the appeal for recruits for the Air Training Corps?

The Under-Secretary of State for Air (Captain Harold Balfour)

I have been asked to reply. The 15 squadrons of the Air Defence Cadet Corps in Scotland have all been transferred to the Air Training Corps. Approval has been given to the formation of a further 25 squadrons since the beginning of this month, making a total of 40 authorised. Many inquiries have been received, and I have little doubt that a large number of Scottish squadrons will eventually be formed.

Sir T. Moore

Does not the reply show that Scotland, as usual, is leading in this question?

Major Milner

Is it not a fact that Yorkshire is leading?

Captain Balfour

I would not be so bold as to say whether Scotland or England is leading, but the response throughout Great Britain and Northern Ireland has been wonderful.
