asked the Prime Minister the number of new Ministerial offices created since the outbreak of war; and whether he will consider their reduction wherever possible, in the interests of economy and Parliamentary independence?

Twenty-two. I will circulate a list of the new Ministerial offices created since the outbreak of war. Ministerial appointments are continually under my right hon. Friend's review, and he will not lose sight of the considerations mentioned by my hon. Friend.

Is this not a matter which could suitably be referred to the Select Committee on National Expenditure?
