HC Deb 20 February 1941 vol 369 c268
23. Mr. Thurtle

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that conditions under which elderly evacuees are living at Marda House, Oswestry, are unsatisfactory, and that, in particular, the treatment of those evacuees who need medical treatment leaves a great deal to be desired; and, if he is unable to arrange for these evacuees to receive better treatment at this institution, whether he will endeavour to make arrangements for their transfer to more comfortable quarters elsewhere?

Mr. E. Brown

Marda House, Oswestry, is an institution and an emergency hospital under the control of the Shropshire County Council. I am not aware that the conditions are unsatisfactory, but I am arranging for an investigation to be made, with particular reference to the circumstances of those persons who were taken to this hospital from the London shelters. I will communicate with my hon. Friend as soon as I have a report.
