HC Deb 19 February 1941 vol 369 c148
39. Mr. Parker

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food what number of prosecutions for illegal slaughtering of animals have taken place in the last six months; and whether a close watch is being kept in this matter?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food (Major Lloyd George)

During the six months ended 31st December, 1940, the latest period in respect of which figures are available, 106 such prosecutions have been instituted. The answer to the second part of the Question is in the affirmative.

Mr. Parker

Is the hon. and gallant Gentleman aware that there is a lot of talk about slaughtering being done on the sly, and is he taking steps to strengthen machinery for inquiring into such rumours?

Major Lloyd George

A very close watch is being kept on the situation.
