HC Deb 19 February 1941 vol 369 cc142-3
31. Sir Leonard Lyle

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the young soldiers detailed for special duties as Army cooks have had time to learn their job in Army schools of cookery; and what is the normal period of such training?

Mr. Law

After a few weeks' duty as learners in the unit cookhouse, soldiers

who have shown themselves suitable are sent to a course of instruction. This course lasts for six weeks, and has been found adequate to give men the necessary basic knowledge of cookery.
