HC Deb 05 August 1941 vol 373 cc1764-5
4. Mr. David Adams

asked the Undersecretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether it is the intention of the Government in Southern Rhodesia to exercise the powers granted under the recent Natural Resources Act in respect to destocking and conservation and improvement of resources in the Reserves; and whether steps are being taken to secure the good-will and consent of the Africans concerned and educational and explanatory work put in hand?

Mr. Shakespeare

Information is not at present available here as to the immediate intentions of the Southern Rhodesia Government in this matter. Inquiry will, however, be made of the Governor concerning the points referred to in the hon. Member's Question.

Mr. Adams

May I take it that, in view of the urgency of the matter, if necessary, pressure will be brought to bear on the authorities concerned in Africa?

Mr. Shakespeare

Yes, if necessary.
