HC Deb 05 August 1941 vol 373 c1783
43. Mr. Rostron Duckworth

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food, the exact standing and present responsibilities of the official who will decide appeals against decisions of food control committees in relation to small shopkeepers; and whether he is satisfied that this system will ensure sufficient in dependence of judgment and avoidance of bureaucratic control?

Major Lloyd George

As I informed my hon. Friend the Member for Bournemouth (Sir L. Lyle) on 29th July, a small shopkeeper who is dissatisfied with the decision of the local Food Control Committee regarding his registrations may appeal to the Divisional Food Officer, the official of the Ministry who is primarily responsible for food questions within his area. The answer to the last part of the Question is in the affirmative.
