HC Deb 05 August 1941 vol 373 cc1792-3
66. Mr. Robertson

asked the Minister of Health what was the reason for the delay in replying to the communications of the hon. Member for Streatham of 27th and 28th June, in regard to the treatment of two London boys evacuated to Cornwall, which resulted in criminal proceedings; and why they were placed in such danger and allowed to continue in that state for so long without any supervision?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health (Miss Horsbrugh)

My right hon. Friend has now sent my hon. Friend a reply dealing fully with the circumstances of this case.

Mr. Robertson

Is the Minister aware that it is two months since the conviction, and 5½weeks since I took the matter up in this House on behalf of my constituents; and is it not wrong that this delay, involving neglect of the children's health, should have taken place?

Miss Horsburgh

Many detailed inquiries have been made and persons interviewed in order that a very full statement might be possible. When my hon. Friend reads the statement, I think he will realise that it was better to make those full inquiries.
